Karen Fletcher has exhibited her work throughout Ontario and in Newfoundland for decades. She is represented in various public and private collections, including The Rooms, KWAG, The Gallery/Stratford and the Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery. She has maintained a summer home and studio in Keels on the Bonavista Peninsula since 1977. While her early practice focused primarily on two-dimensional figurative work, in the late 90’s she began working three-dimensionally.
"... her commitment to the human figure in art has been ... permanent. While other fashionable art movements have emerged and faded, Fletcher’s deployment of the figure as an expressive vehicle has persisted. Initially, that persistence might seem to position her squarely in a traditional camp. But that would be inaccurate. Karen’s work contributes to critical contemporary dialogues ... while affirming the value of our visual heritage. “
